Hello Friends :)

I recently happened upon this John Lennon quote:

"Los Angeles?? That's just a big parking lot where you buy a hamburger for the trip to San Francisco."

Now I've never lived on the west coast but I've had the good fortune of traveling extensively throughout. I kind of get where John was coming from...but perhaps I just haven't had enough experience with the two places. I invite one and all to help me to compare and contrast these two great cities.

In the meantime, feast on a few images from a recent trip through the great city of San Francisco.

Hunter's Hope Foundation :: Rochester, NY Event Photography

Shortly after his birth in 1997, Hunter Kelly - son of NFL Quarterback Jim Kelly & author/activist Jill Kelly - was diagnosed with Globoid-Cell Leukodystrophy (Krabbe disease) - a rare, degenerative disorder of the Central Nervous System. Eight years later the disease would claim his life, but not the fire that continues to burns bright in the hearts and minds of those whose lives he touched. In honor of his strength and in the hopes of raising World-wide awareness of the fight against Krabbe disease, the Kelly Family established The Hunter's Hope Foundation in 1997. Through it's efforts, the Foundation aims to provide hope to struggling families and to bring about legislation that mandates the screening of newborns for all possible diseases.

The following are images gathered from the recent Hunter's Hope Candlelight Ball at the Radisson Hotel in Downtown Rochester. The event was meticulously planned and executed - and good times were had by all. Most importantly, it was brought to life by the many volunteers, vendors and attendees who gave so generously of their time and means to something bigger than themselves. It was an honor to participate in such an amazing effort.

Kori & Shane :: Rochester NY Wedding Photographs

Greetings Dear Friends :)

The month of March can be an unpredictable one in Upstate NY. Occasionally, Old Man Winter will loosen his grip - allowing the thaw to set in and the wonders of Spring to present themselves. Unfortunately for Kori and Shane, this wasn't the case. Heavy rains, near-freezing temperatures and early nightfall characterized their day.

...and you know what??

The day could NOT have been more perfect. Unforgettable, in fact, for it was about the PEOPLE. People... and love... and life... and laughter... and connections... and family and everything that makes our time on this earth worth a damn. I stood in awe of Kori and Shane, the young family that they've started and those who came to support and encourage their journey together. It was in these observations that I was reminded of how lucky we are, and how beautiful life can be. Thank you, dear friends, for this most special gift. May you always be surrounded by all things good :)

I recently came across a folder dated with the year 2004...back before I knew anything specific about photography as a business, or even a technical skill. Back before blogs and facebook and 3G. The Jorge Posada Foundation - Gala 2009

This past fall, Kelli Marsh & I had the opportunity to provide photographic coverage for the Annual Jorge Posada Foundation Gala in NYC. What a thrill!!! For those of you who are not sports fans, Jorge Posada is a 15-year veteran catcher for the New York Yankees, 5-time All Star, 5-time World Champion and sure to be hall-of-famer. The star-studded event was held at the Sheraton Towers in Mid-Town NYC and was intended to raise awareness and funding for the Jorge Posada Foundation.

The purpose of The Jorge Posada Foundation is to reach out to families in need whose children are affected by Craniosynostosis and provide them with emotional support through the Foundation’s family support network. Craniosynostosis is a condition in which one or more of the fibrous sutures in an infant skull prematurely fuses. This results in restricted skull and brain growth. Because the brain cannot expand in the direction of the fused suture, it is forced to grow in the direction of the open sutures, often resulting in an abnormal head shape and facial features. It is estimated that craniosynostosis affects 1 in 2,000 live births. Given these figures, public awareness of CS is critical. Hats off to Jorge, his wife Laura and all who attended and donated their time and resources to the cause. From what we could gather, the event was a huge success.

2009 was beyond comprehension. Fittingly, the last wedding of 2009 was just the same. Vanessa Joy and Rob Adams are not just friends to me, but industry peers whose businesses, work and person I admire enormously. Vanessa is a talented photographer and the driving force behind Vanessa Joy Photography. Rob is a visionary cinematographer and principal at Rob Adams Productions. Professionally they tied the knot last year with the opening of their studio in Freehold, NJ. Blending still photography with motion & sound, they're sure to turn the industry on it's ear with their ultra slick, cutting-edge 'Fusion Wedding' services. You heard it here first folks ;)

At the moment, I am at a loss for words. Yup, me...at a loss for words. Go figure. Perhaps it's nostalgia, perhaps exhaustion. Or maybe it's just best to breathe right now. Turn off your mind, relax and float downstream.

...but before we go, I want to say thank you and much love to Mr. Jez Dickson. If you don't know of Jez, allow me to tell a bit. He's a mountain of a man - an exceptional father, husband, teacher, photographer and friend. He opened his door to me, his heart and his life. He accepted me as family, invited me along to shoot a wedding and then instructed me to 'do what you want mate'. How cool is that?!!? Completely free to roam. Tommy likey :) Jez is what he is by virtue of who he is...and this is quite refreshing. So thank you Jez and the entire Dickson family...thank you Lauren & Adrian...Jane and Rick and all who made my journey to London (and of course, Chelmsford) an unforgettable experience.

Steering clear of my soapbox, I want to quickly say that this recognition is especially fulfilling for two reasons:
-First being that it is a photography award...it is based on imagery and not image. On work and not clout. Names are NOT factored into the judging, leaving the work to speak for itself.
-Second, being recognized in categories as diverse as photojournalism, pure art, details and portrait - all in the same contest - confirms that my work can not be stuffed into a box. I am not interested in trying to steer or control it. I allow it to be what it is, to flow as it should. ...as we should :)

It is a great honor have my work stand alongside such inspiring company. It is testament to the many amazing couples who motivate me to continually push forward.

New York Yankees - 2009 World Champions - Get Fired UP!!!

With a 7-3 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 6 last night in the Bronx, the New York Yankees secured their 27th World Championship...the most by any professional American sports team. I think that that's something to smile about, these Yankees agree!!!

Wikipedia defines 'foodie' as an informal term for a particular class of aficionado of food & drink. Based on what I know about food and drink, Yolanda & Nico are foodies...to a tee. Their European themed, cross cultural celebration blended Yolanda's Italian heritage and Nico's French roots with tasteful elegance and...well, I'm getting hungry :) Man was the food AMAZING!!!

The day is almost here...and I am ecstatic to share these images with you. Pinch me...

Tomorrow night the New York Yankees square off against the Kansas City Royals in the Bronx. Why is this relevant??? It's worth mentioning (and blogging about) because it is also 2009 Poster Night at Yankee Stadium. 18,000 posters were printed and will be distributed to all fans 14 and under in attendance. ...and the coolest thing about all of this...

THE POSTERS FEATURE AN IMAGE OF MARIANO RIVERA THAT I CAPTURED DURING A RECENT PHOTO SHOOT AT THE STADIUM WITH HIM!!!
...exciting indeed :)

A word on Mariano: He is as gracious as he is talented...which is quite a statement considering he is arguably the greatest closing pitcher in the history of the game. He is patient and cordial and even brought himself to laugh at my bad jokes...and if you've ever worked with me before, you know how bad my jokes can be! I never once sensed a hint of pretension, just a dude, like any other. The 30 minute session was a blurr as I was forced to shoot in the Yankee Press Room...a nightmare for photographers as it is more visually confusing than a Las Vegas Casino floor. Scrambling to make the best of it...here are a few of my favorites.

A hearty, heart-felt, forever-owe-you one thank you to Mr. Michael Macchione and the entire staff at Catch 24 Designs in NYC for opening this door for me. I hope that this is the first of many collaborations together :)

Upstate NY NEVER gets enough credit. Those of you who have visited, lived or passed through Adirondack Park, the Finger Lakes Region, Niagara Falls, etc etc know exactly what I am talking about. Wide open spaces to explore. Hills, grass, water, wine...a far cry from the perception that New York State is New York City.

Danielle and Richard know just what I am talking about. It was a real treat to spend a weekend NYS Wine Country with two amazing people and the people who matter most to them. With a perfect setting and a perfect couple (and a whole lot of love), something beautiful had to come of it. I hope that these images convey how full our hearts were on this day.

3rd Wheel Session (Proposal!) - Conesus Lake, NY

life is but a dream...

Under the guise of gathering promotional headshots for Alaina (who is a richly talented dancer, singer/songwriter), my bff Phil (did is just use 'bff'??) and I planned the ultimate "I bet you didn't see that coming" proposal. ...and guess what?? She DIDN'T IT COMING! Not one bit...

We were sobbing like babies when it was all said and done. It was a surreal experience. ...one of those "did that really just happen" - type things. Lucky for the photos...proof that it did :)

Phil & I have been through kindergarten together...through our blissful childhood to our awkward teen years. Through college and into early adulthood (if that's what you want to call it!). We nearly killed each other a few times while "learning the ropes" during our young entrepreneurial days and yet still today, we remain, the very best of friends. In Alaina he has found his counterpoint. A beautiful young woman with a vivacious spirit and a heart shot through with gold. I don't like having to give up my best friend...but Alaina somehow makes it easier :) I am ecstatic for the road that lies ahead of you!

Cheers guys! Thank you for allowing me the privilege of sharing in your most special moment. I still get tingly just thinking about it :)

Puerto Vallarta was AMAZING! ...but what was even more-so were the people whom I was privileged to share the experience with. A million thanks to Kathy and Rob and their families who welcomed us with open arms and once again left us wondering..."is this what we get to do for a living?!?".

The Sincerity of Josh Ritter

Thinking back, I still remember the feeling that came over me when I heard this lyric for the first time. A rush of simplicity, sprinkled with age-old wisdom - resulting in an effortless sense of clarity. I remember thinking, "Man, this guy is the real deal - he gets it". Months later, as the winter turned it's back to welcome the spring air, I thought that it might be nice to make a video of the tune and share it with my friends right here on visual:ramblings. I did so and that was that.

Flash forward nearly a year and wouldn't you know it - I am standing in a bar in Ithaca, NY sipping beers and chatting with Josh, who couldn't have been a more gracious human being. I am happy to report that the sincerity that he delivers in his music comes from a genuine place. Often we fear meeting those whom we admire from a distance as there is no way that they could live up to what we have made them out to be. Josh Ritter is an exception. He's all that...and then some! Before we went our separate ways, Josh grabbed my concert poster and wrote:
"Tom & Kelli - May all of your dances be slow dances." - How freekin cool is that?!?!? We fist-bumped, hugged and went on our separate ways - forever connected by the experience. Thank you Josh Ritter, for being exactly who I hoped you would be :)

Greetings Dear Friends,

I thought that I might share some images from a recent 3rd Wheel Session in New Haven, CT. A million-zillion thanks to Kara and Hans for inviting me into their lives and exposing to me a love that warmed my heart and sent my imagination reeling. The time spent with them was a reminder of how very blessed I am to connect with amazing people who encourage my madness and revel in a process that is not yet defined. For it is through my clients that I realize my own value and hope with absolute humility that my work helps them to realize theirs.

I am at a loss for words at the moment. A combination of excitement, humility, pride, shock and joy have rendered me less that articulate.

The Arrival of Baby Luca

Greetings Dear Friends,

When Kelli Marsh asked me to tag along for an arrival celebration at the Rochester International Airport, I wasn't exactly sure what to expect. All that I knew was that a young couple from Rochester had flown out to Ethiopia to adopt and bring home their baby boy. Armed with that knowledge and an open heart, I embarked upon a truly unique and shockingly beautiful experience. What awaited was a joy so powerful, so pure and unfiltered that it shook me to the very core. The reception of family and friends was so genuine and intense that it made fighting back the tears an exercise in futility. I am not ashamed to say that I was one hot mess :)

The following are some of the images gathered from that unforgettable day. I believe that they speak for themselves, so I will shut up now. An extra special thank you to Kelli Marsh and the Luciano family for inviting me along on an experience that sent my heart soaring. Destination: Atlantis Wedding

Hello Dear Friends :)

I'd like to share some images from a recent wedding on Paradise Island in the Bahamas that I was not only blessed to witness, but was doubly-blessed to to work alongside the fabulous Kenny Kim. A million thanks to Kenny, to our wonderful couple Riley & Jason - who gave us an uninhibited window into their world - and to their families for accepting us with open arms from the very first day. This was the second Atlantis Wedding that Kenny and I had worked together on in as many years. Can we make it three-for-three this season?? My fingers are crossed...

I've mixed a few 'travel' photos into the bunch as Paradise Island is a feast for the eyes & the curious heart. Enjoy! :)

On the Subject of Liberty

On the subject of liberty I suppose that what's most important is that liberty affords its lucky few the consent to express their opinion to inspire social evolution. This freedom to express is critical to all relationships...political, professional and personal. If used properly, free expression encourages dialogue, which inspires the progress that gives much-needed momentum to the process of betterment. As history indicates, though, this is often difficult to accomplish between groups of men as our ability to focus on the root issue is often overshadowed by the temptation to indulge on spoils of immediate satisfaction. All social systems have their flaws. Liberty, in theory, exists to correct those flaws once they are realized. I digress...this is a topic for another conversation as it exceeds the scope of this blog...we love images here, right?!?!

The following images were gathered at last week's T.E.A Party in Rochester. In my estimation, the core purpose of this demonstration was for a group of individuals to exercise the freedom to express their position on a topic of major concern. This was the essence of the reality of liberty, as dialogue is not often easy to initiate. The specifics to me were irrelevant. What was relevant was the enthusiasm...the passion...the fired-up-ed-ness! These are contagious energies which, if used properly, can move mountains.

Please note: This is NOT a political post. This blog NEVER has been and NEVER will be a forum to express political, religious or social opinion. By posting these images, I am not trying to make a statement on policy, but instead paying tribute to a freedom that it too valuable to overlook. These are simply observations that I thought might be fun to share with you all. Not to mention, it was cool to slip into the roll of Photojournalist :)

Hurry Never (and other words to inspire)

Holy Blog-Slacking!!!

In the midst of all of the excitement, I neglected to share my adventures (Boo for me). For this I apologize and promise to get you all up to speed.

Since my last post we've traveled to England to share an amazing week with a talented bunch of international photographers who I am proud to call friends. In fact, Kelli and I worked as models for the group and benefited tremendously from being on the other side of the camera. We visited London and took a trek up to Liverpool, the home of The Beatles!!! Since arriving back home, we've spent a night hanging out with Josh Ritter and the boys from Gomez, shot some incredible 3rd Wheel Sessions, Weddings, and even an Arrival Celebration for a couple bringing their adopted African baby home for the first time...an unforgettable experience. In addition to that, we bought our FIRST CONDO! A two bedroom waterfront beauty on the Irondequoit Bay...fully equipped with a large porch, stunning views and a boat slip to boot!!! Needless to say, this 'slow' season was anything slow!!!

In the midst of all of this madness, one of my closest and oldest friends - let's call him Mikey Lindacher - sent along a message that has been ringing through my head ever since. I'd like to share a snippet of that with you, for his perspective is as refreshing as the spring air that fills our lungs:

"Flint, you know what I want??"

"To live content with small means. To seek elegance rather than luxury, and refinement rather than style. To be worthy, not respectable, and wealthy in spirit, not rich. To work hard, think quietly, talk gently, act frankly. To listen to stars and birds with an open heart; to bear all cheerfully, do all bravely, await occasions, HURRY NEVER. The Scrubs Debacle

Hello Dear Friends,

While in LA some time ago, I had the opportunity to spend an afternoon on the set of Scrubs in North Hollywood. Somewhere along the way, mashed between meeting the crew (Zack, Sarah and guest star Keri Russell, to name a few :]) and touring the set, I was spontaneously thrust into the roll of 'Bar Scene Extra'.

What followed was far and away the worst display of extra acting in the history of Hollywood. A complete and utter disaster proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that my place is on the other side of the camera lens.

Recently, Anton Lorimer edited some of those excruciating moments into a short video clip. Take a look but be sure that you're not drinking or eating anything, as uncontrollable laughter and mockery may result. Special thanks to my man Devin Mahoney for the experience that day...and I once again apologize for the embarrassment that I caused when they called you into the editing room to explain why you let me loose!!! goodtimes :)

The Love/Fear/Time Continuum - Rev. 1

Hello Dear Friends.

It has long been my contention that when you get down to it, there are only two emotions: love and fear. Love embodies all that is favorable, while fear embodies...you guessed it...all that is unfavorable (or at least not-so-favorable). In between those lines is a myriad of labels that we've concocted to describe more specifically what human beings and those select few that we recognize as worthy are feeling. Happiness (Love), Trust (Love), Greed (Fear), Anger (Fear) - are all examples. Given this thesis, every emotional action and reaction is dictated by either love or fear. Now this does not assume that our intention is to convey love or fear, merely to suggest that our actions and interpretation of the emotion arising from said action are, at some point, able to be classified as one or the other. Let's call them 'core emotions'.

Stick with me, I'm going somewhere with this.

Time. The ultimate variable. Time is a constant - time marches on - so it is NOT a variable...correct?? I suggest that time is a variable in that it can be both our greatest ally or our most vicious nemesis. I want you to imagine that time is not what we humans have labeled it as. It is not seconds, minutes or when we have to get to the next meeting that's been wedged into our busy agenda. Instead, imagine it as something that we either have or don't. Perhaps it is more accurate to say that WE are the variable...or at least our interpretation of existing in this space and time varies from the life that we are currently aware of to the blank space that exists on both sides.

So what is the correlation??

Love & Hate vs. Time. Insomuch as we are capable of feeling an emotion, we are aware of the very finite time line that dictates each experience. Taken over a long enough sample...these experiences combine to form our life's journey. Throughout, we have a very pecular way of interpreting time based on the core emotions that surface from experience. With Love, time is perceived as an ally. As with all that is on 'our side', we do not feel the need to concern ourselves with time when our experience is linked to love. Therefore, in the face of love, time is infinite. A non-factor. It 'stands still' or 'flies by'. In the face of fear though, a very different interpretation of time is revealed. Time becomes a nemesis. Fear brings time to the forefront and causes us to fight against it. We concern ourselves with the detail of time which overshadows the experience that we are faced with. Fear and time share a mutually beneficial relationship with one another.

Am I making sense here?? Perhaps a few examples to illustrate...

I am fortunate enough to associate the work that I do with favorable emotions. Joy, Satisfaction, Bewilderment, etc. etc. ...Love. When I am working I don't think about time. It does not factor. This is evidenced by the days that have slipped past while involving myself in a process that I am passionate about. This is accomplished without recognition that time has, in fact, passed. A mother and her newborn baby. Yes, the days may seem long, but when that little one leaves home for the first day of college, it seems like only yesterday that he or she were still in diapers and needed their mommy. Two new lovers embarking on the journey of discovery...timelines erode. These are all examples of favorable experiences, and are not associated with a ticking clock or a beginning and an end.

Conversely exists the fear/time continuum. I recently suffered a blockage in my esophagus. This experience caused an overwhelming sense of helplessness, anxiety and desperation. ...fear. Immediately my thoughts shifted to time. Am I out of time?? Did I have the time to tell my mother that I love her?? Did I have the time to illustrate to my girlfriend the profound effect that she has had on my life?? Will I ever spend time with my siblings again?? As morbid as these thoughts were, they were instinctually brought to consciousness by virtue of fear. Like a cat hiding in a tree waiting for its predator to pass. She will stay perched all day until the 'bad guy' loses interest. Like the disinterested high school student staring at the clock, waiting for bell to ring. 'When will the time come??' These are examples of the unfavorable emotion. ...fear. And with fear comes the shocking realization of time.

I am not suggesting that love is a good thing and fear is bad. This is not my intention. Instead, I am recognizing that both exist...perhaps one to amplify the other, combining in a helix around the perception of time. Perfect symbiosis. Only through experiencing great fear can we realize the value of time. Only through love can we realize that time is irrelevant. Only through experiencing both the favorable and unfavorable can we realize the magnitute of our existence in this life. And only through this realization can true enlightenment begin. our energies are timeless...our forms bound to time.

At any rate, we mustn't squander that which we have been given - for its value is too great to measure.

please note: I am currently working to expand upon this theory. I am presenting it in a very raw form in an attempt to gather feedback from the people whom I value most. I invite your thoughts in helping me to develop mine. I value and love you all, and thank you for reading.

Gratitude - Jared Valentine - Drop Dead Designs

January was a busy month for Tomas Flint Weddings, though this blog was not exactly indicative of the fact! Yep...the ol' visual:ramblings has once again played second fiddle to a number of new developments - all of which will be featured in upcoming posts.

For now, I would like to continue with the 'Gratitude' theme which was developed to pay tribute to key individuals who have enhanced my life, both personally and professionally, by virtue of their individuality, patience and talent.

If you're from Rochester, then you are probably (hopefully!) familiar with Open Face Sandwich Eatery. It's tops on my list for lunchtime destinations. The decor is quaint, warm and inviting and the menu - clever, thoughtful and delicious. Not to mention it is staffed by down-to-earth individuals who contribute enormously to a truly unique dining experience. I'm a big fan, what can i say?!?!

Now I am not the type of person who gets cravings for one particular food or another, but Open Face features this 'open face' corn mash sandwich on sourdough topped with bbq sauce and onion crunchies that actually causes a physical reaction every time that I think about it. So a few months back while gorging on one of these bad-boys, I came to the realization that it was their branding that spoke to me almost as loudly as their product. After some investigation, I discovered that the guy who was responsible for delivering this 'sandwich of the gods' was also responsible for the atmosphere that I was so fond of - enter Jared Valentine.

Now Jared is not only the artist force behind developing Open Face's one-of-a-kind menu, but he is also its part owner, operator, interior and graphic designer...all rolled into one. In addition, he runs his own design outfit - Drop Dead Designs - which provides visual consulting services to businesses of all types. Quite an impressive dude :)

Over the next few months, Jared and I worked together defining and visualizing the brand that is Tomas Flint Weddings. He was patient every step of the way - sketch after sketch, swatch after swatch, etc...etc. A true professional in every sense, he is a gifted listener - and Lord knows, I talked a LOT - with extensive knowledge of his trade. He invited my input and knew exactly when to cut me off, as I have a tendency to get ahead of myself! In the end, we arrived at a logo, color scheme and slew of marketing products that we feel exemplify Tomas Flint Weddings as it is today - Fun, Fresh and Full of Possiblities.

Thank you Jared, dear friend, for giving so much of yourself to the process. I am eternally grateful for what you have introduced...both the me and Flint Weddings...and I look forward to our friendship and collaboration for years to come.

Ciao Tutti!

Derailed, sidetracked, off the beaten path. These are all words to describe my workday. I awoke full of excitement, ready to tackle the task at hand. I sat at my workstation with a steaming cup of 'very vanilla' coffee atop my Beatles Abbey Road coaster in front of me and a plan to work out the final details of the new Flint Weddings Website.

"Before I do that, let me take a quick peek at a few images from our trip to Italy last Spring," I thought. ...and so it goes.

Upon our arrival in Rome, we dropped our things at the family villa and headed out to catch the last glimpses of daylight. It is a long running tradition of mine to take the B Line to the Colosseo stop before I do anything else. Since this was my first trip to Rome with Kelli, I thought that it might a nice way to say..."Benvenuto a Roma!". Walking out of that subway stop to witness the mighty Coliseum and Roman Forums staring back takes one's breath away every time. It is a powerful thing to behold. So much history...so freekin old!!!

After regaining our breath, I noticed a poorly violin player (shabby clothes, beat up intrument missing the chin rest) approaching a young woman waiting for her bus. She was immediatly aware of his presence, but didn't want him to know. The violinist walked up along side her and began playing. And although she did her best to ignore him, she was eventually broken. They exchanged a smile and she gave him some change. It was a brief interaction...easy to miss, yet when I saw that sequence of images this afternoon, I was immediately transported back. I was there again, and the smells and sounds and sights were as alive today as they were 8 months ago. That is the power of a photograph. They are not just ink on paper...They are reminders. They are the information that jog our memories and allow our past to live today. They are significant.

I've included a few images from that sequence below, but had to cut them down in the interest of image load time. If you'd like to see more, I would be ecstatic to share. The rest of the images are from that evening. Twilight at the Panteon, dinner at Piazza Navona...ahhh Roma. From there we traveled for two weeks and collected thousands of images. I hope to find some time to review those soon...you will all be the first to know :)

After dinner we walked past a film crew shooting two really beautiful people doing something around a limousine. I snapped this and was kindly escorted away by one of the grips. As I always say...It's easier to ask for forgiveness that permission :)

Hello Dear Friends,

So the big push is on. Yes indeed, the .:tomas flint photographers:. rebranding effort is in full swing. This all began months ago when I arrived at the realization that it was time to loosen the reigns and invite individuals into the organization to breathe new life into what was beginning to feel stale. I finally accepted that I simply could not be all things and that the strength of many is so much more significant than that of one. ...and I am ecstatic to report that what (and more specifically who) I've discovered along the way has enhanced not only my work and my approach to it, but my life as a whole. This influx of creative energy has benefited my entire existence, recharged my batteries and re-affirmed that I am on the right path.

Over the next few blog posts, I intend to pay tribute to those who have enhanced this experience by virtue of their honesty, enthusiasm and creativity. I am doing this in NO particular order as it would be impossible to rank their contributions.

Anton and I met in San Francisco back in June of this year. I was "west-coastin' it" to work with my friends Ann Hamilton and Joel Serrato on a wedding in San Jose that week. Already being a fan of Anton's work, I was pleased to discover that he was, in person, everything that I wished he would be. We were introduced via Ann & the fabulous Gene Higa and the rest is, as they say, history. Anton exceeds expectations. Anton is the uber. I simply cannot say enough. What we forged over the next few months was more than just hours upon hours of footage...we forged a significant bond. I thank you Anton, for your dedication to this project, for your numerous edits and for simply being you.

Anton's production is featured at the top of the blog and will be for the next couple of weeks. Check it out if you have a spare 3 and a half minutes. It won't hurt...much :) And if you're a photographer considering a video element for your business, feel free to contact me. I like to talk :)

Hello Friends,

This past December 8th marked the 28th anniversary of untimely passing of the extraordinary yet altogether ordinary poet, musician, philosopher, activist, hero, villain, beatle, human being...John Lennon. John was many things. Regardless of whether those were right or wrong, good or bad, he was EXACTLY what he said he was. Simply a dude with a very thin protective coating, blessed with the spirit of wonder and a penchant for articulating his life experience in a way that anyone could understand. This is not to discount his genius (as it is indisputable), but moreso to point out that greatness walks amongst us. In fact, greatness lives within each and every one of us. It is finding the courage to broadcast that which we possess that prevents us from believing in our own potential. ...and the world from appreciating it! John was beautiful and so are all of you my dear friends. Beautiful just as you are. Bursting with potential.

So...

I played hookie for a good portion of that day to listen to some of John's music, read up on old interviews and play some of the tunes that inspired me to begin my musical journey. I wanted to share a few of those with you. Now even though they display no greatness in any way, they sure do beat the heck out of working :) I hope that you enjoy...or at least don't throw tomatoes at your monitor...

Not a Dry Eye in Sight - Misha & Michael

They laughed...a lot. They cried...a lot. They danced and sang and hugged and kissed and made the absolute MOST of their biggest day. Did I mention that they laughed and cried?? ...a lot?!?!

Misha and Michael were married this past October at The Fountainhead Conservatory & Gardens in New Rochelle, NY. And let me tell you, dear friends, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. I told Mike after the ceremony that it was like shooting fish in a barrel! There was so much emotion in that room...you could literally feel it. It was an amazing experience and one that I will never forget as Mike and I go back to grade school together! That's a lot of history so you can image how honored I was/am to have played a roll in creating memories of this time in his life. Yes, I love my job!

The party that followed did not disappoint. There was Caribbean fare, Italian pastries, a live steel drum band...the works. The speeches were heartfelt, the wine was flowing and the dance floor bumpin! good times indeed :)

A super huge special thanks to Miss Kelli Marsh for her (once again) tireless curiosity and stunning imagery. And an enormous thank you to Inez Bennett from Elaborate Parties by Bennett for her masterful coordination of this fine day. If you're a couple in the NYC area looking for someone to help you plan the perfect day, you need look no further than Inez. She's committed, knowledgeable, experienced and enthusiastic...a real pleasure to work around.

December Blog-vember marches on! I hope that you all have been enjoying the ride so far. I have so much to share... Like this collection of portraits of the extremely beautiful, yet equally talented Lindsey Thorne. Lindsey & I got together recently on her turf...the urban paradise that is Williamsburg, Brooklyn. She needed some images for her modeling portfolio and I was looking for a subject to cameo in my upcoming promo video so...as fate would have it...we found each other. Believe it or not, Lindsey says that she is more comfortable with the camera in her hands and not on her face as she is a photographer first.

I'll let you all be the judge of that...

Linds - thank you for your love, energy and trust. You're amazing! And thank you to Mr. Anton Lorimer for tagging along on the shoot and capturing some killer live footage. Jinny Kim & Koo Chung were united through music, fell in love through music and will dance the rest of their days together - surrounded by the music which is their lives. It was a magnificent thing to witness and a day that I will not soon forget. I am so honored to have worked with them as I am a huge fan of their work, individually and collectively. I encourage you to check them out...really great stuff :)

They were joined by those who mattered most to celebrate their wedding at The Colonial Terrace Mansion in Westchester, NY. A morning marked by cool temperatures and gray skies gave way to a sun-drenched afternoon and good times were had by all.

I found myself in the roll of "3rd Shooter" as I was invited to come along to lend a hand to Mr. Kenny Kim and the lovely Vanessa Joy Scavone. I invited this roll openly as I was given the freedom to kick back and tune in. Here are a few that I came up with...

Here's a random tid-bit:
One of my favorite '70's rock tunes is a song called Black Betty by Ram Jam. Turns out that the lead singer of the band, Myke Scavone, is Vanessa Joy's father!!! How cool is that?!?! Traci & Brendan - A Caribbean Love Story

Greetings Dear Friends :)

Brrrrr. As the snow-covered freezing rain debacle accumulates outside the studio window, I take great pleasure in sifting through these images from not so long ago. I take equal pleasure in thinking about boarding a plane this Thursday bound for The Bahamas to reunite with my man...Mr. Kenny Kim...on another destination assignment. Good times lie ahead, indeed. In the meantime, I'm counting on these images to keep me warm.

Traci and Brendan were married this past September at El Conquistador Resort in sunny Puerto Rico. It was an honor, a joy & a pleasure to tag along to document this amazing journey. I've known Traci for some time and couldn't have picked a better mate for her. Both have such huge personalities that blend together perfectly. They share a love that walks the line between passion and comfort, and leaves hope in all who observe it that anything is possible. I love the love that they share and am so thankful to have witnessed it.

Greetings Blog Nation!

In an effort to keep my workflow and delivery times on track for the many wonderful couples that I've worked with this past year, I've had to bump 'time spent blogging' to the end of my priority list. As a result, this year's Blog-vember has required a schedule revamp and will extend into December. Yes...Blog-vember in December. It's got a nice ring to it and what good are rules anyway?!?!? Who's to say that we can't have Blog-vember stretch into December?? I mean, 80's fashion has come back and no one could have ever seen that coming... So, no need to riot in the streets here, my friends, there is plenty slated for the upcoming month that is sure to satisfy. I appreciate your understanding and hope to hear from many of you throughout this exciting time ;)

Buon Viaggio Nonna

Hello All,
My grandmother on my mother's side, my nonna, is heading back to Italy tomorrow after a two month visit that culminated with my baby sister's wedding this past weekend (More on that coming soon :] ). While she was here, I promised her that I'd gather some images from our tour through Italy this past Spring to take back to friends and family. Sure enough, two months went by in a flash and with a heavy workload & travel schedule I never found the time. Booooo.
Nonna understood and lightened her request to images from the days spent with her sister, my zia, in the Northeastern mountain towns of Belluno & Cortina. Going through these images was a real treat, as I hadn't seen any of them since they were captured. I have over 60 gigs of photos from that trip and HADN'T SEEN A SINGLE ONE until yesterday. Again...Booooo. The following are a few of my favorites:

I wanted to share a small collection of images from the recent wedding of Sarah & Chris. Chris is the younger brother of a dear old friend whom I've known since high school. Over the years, I've watched Chris grow from an all-too-easy-to-pick-on younger brother to quite a spectacular human being with a voice & presence all his own. In Sarah he has found a vibrant spirit, his perfect compliment. It was such an honor to share this day with them and the people that they care about most. A million extensions of gratitude to all who attended for making this homecoming so special. ...and, of course, a big shout-out to Kelli Marsh for once again exceeding all expectations. Tying the Knot : Heather & Jeff

So I've said it a million times, and heard it even more. Tying the Knot. I never thought about it much, I guess. You know...tying the knot...getting married...yeah. A few weeks ago, Heather and Jeff explained to me that they would be "tying the knot" during their ceremony in front of the Upper Falls at Letchworth State Park. OK. Wait a minute...what??

Apparently, 'tying the knot' is actually an old English custom whereby the couple's hands are actually tied together with rope during their wedding ceremony to symbolize their union as one. Yup, and according to legend, the couple were not to untie their hands until they consummated the marriage :) Now I don't know much about that last bit, but it sure was a treat to watch these two tie the knot on a hot August afternoon in front of their international families and friends. Heather & Jeff - Tying the Knot

Coolest Wedding Day gift EVER!!! Heather presented this Gretsch Country Gentleman hallow-body acoustic to Jeff just before his band went on. Needless to say, he was a bit taken back. But he picked it up and played like a champ, and we all ate it up! Another little tid-bit...George Harrison used this guitar (not this exact one, but this type) when the Beatles recorded All My Lovin way back in 1963. Countless of other guitarists have used this body before and after, but I'm what you might call a beatlefreak.

Here's a funny one. Note to Jeff...exercise caution when inciting a chest butt from your flower girls.

Greetings Dear Friends,

I'll admit it...I've been a bad blog boy lately. Finding time to breathe has become a challenge nowadays. ...and with the Olympics in full swing, it's been difficult to ignore the late night recaps with Bob Costas (my favorite sportscaster of all time) on NBC every night. In short, something had to give and it turns out that visual:ramblings has taken a back seat. No worries though...i'm storing away plenty of new tasty visual treats for upcoming posts and assure you that this year's Blog-Vember II (The Return of Blog-Vember) will be the greatest to date!!! Just stick with me in the meantime blog-people, I will check in as often as possible.

I wanted to post some images of the newly nuptualized Kaitlin & Stephen Gionta. There is something about the way that she drapes her arms over his shoulders, the way he looks at her and the way they laugh together that is pure magic. It was a real treat to share in this beautiful day.

We've known each other since the time when Twisted Sister was burning up the charts with their rock anthem "We're not gonna take it". Back when Pac Man was first released. 3rd Wheel Session: Kaitlin & Stephen

I wanted to share some images with you all from a recent 3rd Wheel Shoot. What gets me most about these images is the intense connection and comfort that Kaitlin & Stephen share. They made my job so incredibly easy! Kaitlin is the bees-knees...the bomb. She's a New England Girl who possesses a heartwarming charm, a radiant smile and an uncanny ability to turn her Mass accent on and off like a switch. Stephen is genuine...the real deal. Brother of NHL Superstar Brian Gionta and soon to be NHL Superstar himself. Not to mention handsome, kind and without a hint of pretension. Together they are brilliant, larger than life. I'll warn you now, this is going to be a long one. Get up and stretch, grab a cup of organic white tea, do whatever it is that you need to do to get fired up for this installment of visual:ramblings. Thank you for being here.

Last week was one for the books. I have so many people to thank...probably best that I list them:

Taylor & Frank: Thank you for letting us into your life and for trusting in us so freely. Your love is true and time tested...13 years was it?? I think that I can speak for Ann and Joel when I say that we are grateful for the experience.
(Taylor Pham is the founder and driving force behind Thi Cosmetics - a makeup line celebrating Asian beauty. She's also a killer makeup artist who's work has been featured in Elle, Glamour, InStyle, Modern Bride and slew of other publications. If you're a bride in Southern California, Taylor Pham is it.)

Ann Hamilton: What can I say?? Amazing. I love the friendship that we share. Thank you for everything...you're an angel.

Sunbursts & Cherry Trees

Greetings Dear Friends,

I awoke this morning to a gray sky. Put off by a lingering feeling of blah, I decided to roll over and attempt to snag a few more moments of precious zzzz's. This, of course, proved useless as my mind quickly entered into 'think' mode and reminded me that I had left my Jeep outside with the windows open the night before. Frustrated and somewhat vex, I kicked off the sheets and headed outside rectify the situation. Sliding open the door to my back shed:

...an unexpected sunburst blinded me as I passed my lone cherry tree and I felt immediately at ease. It was just what I needed, although at the time I had no idea that I had needed anything at all.

This brought to mind a quote by the great author Aldous Huxley:

"Happiness is not achieved by the conscious pursuit of happiness; it is generally the by-product of other activities."

I interpret this as saying that life will give us exactly what we need exactly when we need it, our duty is to be present enough in our moment to recognize its presence in our world. Does that make any sense?? Maybe I'm rambling...maybe I just at to many cherries today.

Speaking of which, they say that life isn't a bowl of cherries. Well today was...and I'm holding out hope that tomorrow will be the same.

Greetings Dear Friends,

What a perfect way to spend a weekend. A few weeks back, I had the pleasure of heading down to the Long Island Shore to catch up with my boy :e: and bear witness to the magical union of Jana & Tim. The weather was perfect, the scenes were breathtaking and the people were of the highest caliber. Once again reinforcing the fact that I am amongst the luckiest guys alive!

I'm pretty fired up right now! Just got word from Destination Weddings & Honeymoons Magazine that Jina & Joe's Paradise Island, Bahamas wedding is going to be featured in the "I do" section of the Fall 2008 Issue! A super huge shout-out to my main - KK...Mr. Kenny Kim for dragging me out to paradise and putting up with my complaining all week (kidding ;-)).

It was (and always is) a joy.pleasure.honor to be around you Kenny and I look forward to the road that lies ahead. Thank you dear friend, it's an honor to share this w you. Oh...and for the record, when we are there again this December...you will ride the giant slide through the shark pool (and you will like it).

Light, Love and couples who embody these elements.

These are the only factors that I require of my Together Sessions. No script, no scouting, no props...I approach each session organically and learn about myself, my work and the people whom I am blessed to work with on a very sincere and genuine level. These are very rewarding projects.

Despite yesterday's overcast, the light that is Estelle & Nate was burning bright. Rounding out the group were Ivy & Phoebe, their two beautiful (and spunky) 4-legged little ones. I take that back, Ivy is actually much bigger than I am when she gets up on her hind-legs! In the end we wound up with exactly what we started with...two beautiful people, very much in love.

The Colors of the Wu-Chang

Greetings Friends,

Last weekend brought me through Buffalo, NY to bear witness to the love-drenched nuptuals of Wendy Wu & Michael Chang...now simply, The Wu-Chang Clan. It was a beautiful spring day...trees were in bloom, spirits were elevated and smiles & laughter were in high supply. Although I am still working the the imagery from that day, I wanted to post a few that jumped out at me.

Noteworthy:
Wendy is a graphic designer and a wickedly talented one at that!!! She designed her own programs and came up with a way of using images from their Engagement Shoot as table markers and table-toppers for the reception. All of the details were so personalized...and so very clever. What's more is that her wedding colors were a dark brown and bright green!!! My favorite color combination and one that I've been using in my identity scheme for some time now! Fantastic job Wendy, everything looked amazing - and yes, I am biased and proud to say it!

Also, this day could never have been what it was without the uber-talented contribution of :e:...Mr. Eric Laurits. :e: gave every ounce of what he had to every second of that day because, frankly, I don't think that he knows how to give any less!

Thank you :e: for your self-less dedication to recognizing the light, love & beauty in us all. It was both a pleasure and an honor to have you aboard.

last weekend i was in new york city working with my dear friend kenny kim. kenny is such a pleasure to be around. good people. our friends that weekend were eunice and tim. tim is a west coast man at heart, but seems to have adapted well to life in the big city. eunice is as sweet as can be. her family welcomed us with open arms and made us feel at home. thank you for your kindness. it is sincerely appreciated.

on the day before the wedding, we got together in central park. the trees were blooming and the sun was beating down. the magnolia's were in bloom! i have a soft spot for magnolia trees. so beautiful but so fading. they facinate me. during that afternoon friendships were formed and good times were had. here are some of my images. swing by kenny's blog if you'd like to see more from that day...he has a full report.

Yesterday:
Blue skies sprinkled with dense clouds and the kind of sunshine that rushes new life into the bodies of those feeling weighed down by the drain of old man winter. In a word, revitalizing. Dare I say it?? Has Spring in fact, sprung?? Perhaps I shouldn't be so bold...don't want the blame for a Mid-May "return to February".

Instead of making outlandish claims, I want to share with you all a bit of madness from my world. The following are low-budget videos of songs that were inspired by the sunlight that got us going that day. Greetings Friends,

Nostalgia. It's finally starting to sink in. My little sister - my dear baby sister - is getting married. This can't be! Is it possible that the same little tomboy with scraped knees and over-sized glasses has grown into a woman...a woman with all of the vivacity, wit and beauty that is woman??

It is possible.

And I'm freekin pumped for her!!!

Ali has always been my best friend, biggest fan and harshest critic. I can't image me being me without Ali being in there somewhere. I am so proud of who she is.
She is:

In Jay she has found a good man. A rock. If there is one thing that I know about Jay, it's that he really does adore my sister. In all the time that I have spent with him, he has never been anything short of a prince.

These are two lucky people to have found one-another. I am one lucky guy to bear witness to it all. There is no doubt that the universe is unfolding exactly as it should. Smiles and sunshine for many years to come.

For their Save the Date cards we went with the high contrast b&w photo booth-sign theme. You have to image this as a thin strip with a front and back. I laid them out side by side for the sake of the web and dropped a texture for the 'awww' factor:

Greetings Dear Friends,

It's been some time since my last post...feels as if I've dropped off of the face of the blog-world. Perhaps it can be attributed to a hectic schedule or maybe just a case of blog-block (I think that I am inventing that term which is the digital equivalent to writer's block). In any case, I am happy to report that life is spectacular on my end and good times lie ahead. I hope that each and every one of you is filled with love and promise.

To get things started up again...
Here is a collection of images from a recent trip to Las Vegas that I gathered using my Canon SD1000 Point & Shoot Camera. I was out in Sin City to attend the largest gathering of Wedding & Portrait Photographers in the country - The WPPI Tradeshow and Convention. It was a fantastic week but as is usually the case with Las Vegas...a blur. A super-huge giant shout out to all the dear friends whom I re-connected with during that time, and to the new connections that were forged along the way. I can say with absolute confidence that this industry is littered with some of the finest people on the planet!!! I am so blessed to be a part of it.

On the last night there I decided to treat myself to a performance of the Cirque Du Soleil Show - Love. Yes, my obsession with The Beatles is a bit out of hand. I admit it. If you haven't seen the show though...go. It gets my highest endorsement, but then again I may be biased!!!

"All you need is..."

This is my new friend Danny and his wife Rudy, whom I met at the show.

Danny is the real deal...born and raised in Liverpool, England. Rudy was gentle and kind...hailing from the south of France. I was so touched by the short time that I shared with them. So full of life, so much in love...so incredibly respectful of one another. Danny filled my ears (and imagination) with the story of his life. He spoke of growing up on the streets of a war-torn shipping town. He got emotional when telling me of the day that his 'hometown lads' - The Beatles - played the Ed Sullivan Show in the United States and what a huge deal that was. He told me of his journey to the states where the streets of Little Rock, Ark. were paved with gold. Later of his time spent in Buffalo, NY as a member of the Baker's Union where the snow "drove him crazy". Then off to the west coast to train for service with the US forces in the Korean conflict. And finally of the day that he returned home from war to meet the love of his life - a woman who 40 + years down the road is still the "finest woman alive". Just before the curtain went up and the performance began, Danny turned to me and said..."I wouldn't change a single thing"...and I was floored - profoundly touched by the sincerity with which he uttered that phrase.

Every life has a story, every relationship an influence and every moment a significance. Often I get too caught up in my day to day to recognize that. Thank you Danny for helping me to remember.

It's been a hectic couple of weeks. ...not to mention COLD. How cold??

yeah...about THAT cold!!! No sense in complaining though. This is the North East and this is (was!!) February. Let's just hope that Old Man Winter is growing tired of our neck of the woods.

I had a chance to catch up with my good friends Erich Camping & Gary Ventura last week. They say that you're only as good as the company that you keep. If that's true, then I guess that I'm doing pretty darn good. We talked for hours but only decided to break out the cameras in the last 20 minutes. We took an afternoon to hang out at one of my favorite (indoor) spots in Rochester...The Village Gate.

The Decemberists Live!!!

Hello Wonderful People,

Today started off on the dull side. Overcast, cold...kinda blah. I had gotten some cleaning done yesterday (thanx for your help, kel ;)) and dug up a few old issues of Mojo Magazine which I thumbed through over late morning tea and oatmeal. I came across a writeup on The Decemberists which got me thinking about a show of theirs at The University of Buffalo last year. Long story short, here are some images that I grabbed from that unforgettable night. I had a front row ticket and unlimited time...just wish I had some of the fancy new equipment that I use nowadays ;)

If you're not familiar with The Decemberists, I highly recommend a listen. ...and if they ever come to a city near you...GO...you won't regret it. Awakenings

Hello Dear Friends :-)

This line has been dancing through my head for days now. For with each consideration, I feel a sense of peace. I am smitten by the possibility of what's to come, yet perfectly satisfied with the seeds that lie in my hand. And it is in the planting of these seeds that I have succeeded...not in the direction in which they grow. I have embraced the simple reality that everything that I have ever experienced has taken me to this very moment...and that this moment is absolutely beautiful because of that. I am so grateful for all of you - the wonderful people who have enriched my life through the connection that we share. I am strong because of you, full because of you...complete and completely content. So on this Hallmark Love Day, I am going to break from tradition and ask that you all be my valentine. All of you beautiful people who mean so very much to me. Be mine. And to my special sweetheart Kelli, the connection we share makes every day Valentine's Day...today and always. Heart u mamma!!!

Greetings Dear Friends,

Camille & Steve : New York City : 1 Week Before Christmas. 1 great couple + endless urban settings = 1 amazing shoot. Their willingness to explore and experiment is as boundless as the bond that they share. This afternoon was pure magic and here are some of my favorite images from the day. Thank you Camille & Steve, for letting your guard down and inviting me to share in your love.

This first image was created using six different overlays that I gathered in and around Manhattan the day before the E-Shoot. We had one shot at capturing the image as the train was pulling away...

We ventured into Times Square just after dusk on the Saturday before Christmas. Can you say "Mob Scene"?? What a thrill (and challenge) it was to shoot amongst the thousands of people that wandered there that night.

These are images that I captured from the rooftop of my brother and sister-in-law's apartment in the Upper East Side. This is one of my favorite places to go and breathe while in the City.

If you know me than you know about my love for traveling by rail. Sure, the trains are always late and the travel time is considerably longer, but to me there is nothing that even remotely compares. Here are a couple of snaps from Penn Station. And yes, the train was late!!!

Hey Hey!!!

I am moments away from leaving for my last wedding assignment of 2007 - A New Year's Eve celebration for Carrie & Alan in Syracuse, NY. What an incredible year it has been! From my very core, I am thankful for the couples who have touched my soul, the peers that have encouraged and lifted my spirit and the friends & family who have supported me throughout the year. I am so eternally freekin grateful and excited about the prospect of 2008. Onward and upward.

In late October of 2007, my dear friend Kenny Kim invited me to join him for a destination wedding in sunny Paradise Island in the Bahamas. It was a magical experience. Also included on the vendor list for that event was an extremely talented DJ from Chicago by the name of Roberto Monastero. Now up until this point, I had never really thought much about the roll of Wedding DJ. I am usually too busy throughout the day to stop and notice the impact that a DJ can have on a wedding reception. Kinda silly, huh?? Well, working with Roberto opened my eyes and consciousness. Roberto is not just a guy that spins tunes...he lives to spin tunes. He is an artist who's passion and drive is undeniable. ...and his skills, unmatched. A consummate professional and kindred spirit. What a party that reception was!!!

((Flash Forward)) Yesterday I received an email from Roberto that he had sent to his entire contact list announcing the official release of the images from that wedding. I was so touched by the words that he used in his closing paragraph:

"I have done too many wedding receptions with average come-and-go photographers, but these two gentlemen [kenny and tomas] are hands down, the best I have ever worked with."

Thank you for your kind words Roberto and know that the feeling is mutual. I look forward to working with you again soon, my friend.
